I like to use a little bit of nostalgia in my paintings, so I go to antiques shops a lot to look for old (but not too old) stuff. Retro/vintage but not too ornate and fussy, if you know what I mean. I bought this cute doll for $1 this weekend at Oxley Antiques:
Creepy? Sweet? Bit of both?
Anyway, I think it makes a good prop for a painting. Now it’s just a matter of deciding what to pair it with and whether to leave it in the original packaging or not.
Meanwhile, I’ve been invited by Cascade Art Concepts in Milton to exhibit with them at the Affordable Art Show in the Brisbane Showgrounds in May, so I’m getting five paintings ready for that. One that I’ll be exhibiting is a painting I completed late last year of a teapot with some plums that I photographed while my wife and I were having a picnic on our back lawn:
